SharePoint Usage

Q: Where do I go to view my department data in SharePoint?
A:  You can access your department data in SharePoint through three main methods:

Q: How do I download OneDrive on my SJF computer?
A: If OneDrive is not already installed onto your SJF computer, you can download it via the Microsoft Company Portal (for Windows), and via the Self Service (for MacOS or iPadOS).

Data Migration

Q: Is my Google Shared Drive data being migrated to SharePoint?
A: The initial migration focuses on moving data from Citadel to SharePoint. Migration of Google Shared Drive data will occur in a later phase of the project.

Q: How do I get data from Google Drive into SharePoint?

Q: How do I move Shared Drive data from Google Drive into SharePoint?
A: Please refer to the KB article: Article - Transferring Google Drive Data to OneDrive.

Q: Is Google going away and being replaced by SharePoint?
A: No, Google Drive will still be available for use. However, OIT will start creating new Google Shared Drives requested in SharePoint. Existing Google Shared Drives will be migrated to SharePoint at a later date.

Compatibility

Q: Can I still use Citadel?
A: Once your department data has been migrated to SharePoint, you will no longer have access to your Citadel space. This ensures that all changes are made only in SharePoint, avoiding duplication.

Q: Do I still need to use the Cisco Secure Client VPN to get to my departmental data?
A: No, you can access SharePoint on any device with an Internet connection. Use a web browser or the Microsoft SharePoint app available on the Apple App Store or Google Pay Store.

Comparisons

Q: What is the difference between OneDrive and SharePoint?
A: OneDrive is designed for individual storage and file sharing, making it ideal for personal documents. SharePoint, on the other hand, is built for team collaboration, allowing multiple users to work on documents and projects together in a shared space.

Q: What is the difference between Google Drive and SharePoint?
A: Like OneDrive, Google Drive is also primarily designed for individual or small group file storage and sharing. SharePoint is build for broader team collaboration, document management, etc. 

Q: What is the difference between a Department SharePoint site and a SharePoint Shared Drive?
A: A Department SharePoint site is for use with your team/department, and will contain your Confidential and Public folders from Citadel, if you had a space in Citadel. A SharePoint Shared Drive is used for collaboration across SJF departments, much like a Google Shared Drive.

A: We are deploying SharePoint to enhance collaboration and productivity with its modern, user-friendly platform. Additionally, we are retiring Citadel, our server-based file storage, in favor of SharePoint for its superior collaborative features.
